ambassador susan rice and john kerry. i have no problem with susan rice. i think she's fantastic and unfortunate how she's been treated recently. i tell you, john kerry during this campaign has been fantastic in his debate prep with the president. i thought his speech as the dp nc was brilliant, and i think he would be a terrific diplomat. there's concerns that if he was nominated then the senate -- his senate seat would be open and scott brown could have another shot at getting into the senate. i don't think that would be the worst thing in the world for the president, especially since we picked up seats this time around. scott brown, as a republican who may actually across the aisle, could actually serve as a useful political tool for the president. that will be interesting to watch. the other one, of course, is treasury secretary time geithner leaving. one of the outside names that's been floated is cheryl sandberg, coo of facebook. she's the first one and she's had a terrific choice. another name i haven't heard but my virginia centrist byas leads me t

so i think that's the real test is whether the president can really trust john kerry to speak for him and he e spent a lot of time with him recently. so i think he has a good sense of that by now. >> there's been a lot of talk about by the president about bipartisanship. this is one area where people have suggested maybe he'd reach across the aisle and pick a republican. names mentioned included jon huntsman, chuck hagel and colin powell. . where would you put the percentages of likelihood on that? >> this is a place where you really need to have a very good relationship developed. this is a role where the secretary of state really speaks for the president when she or he is meet iing with world leaders and really has to represent the united states. there can't be any daylight between the state department and the white house. so i think the idea of putting someone who is bipartisan is one thing, but has to know where the president is. so i expect him to go with a democrat or someone who has served in his administration. >> ray lahood is indicated he doesn't plan to stick around. not us

i think we might be seeing john kerry become the secretary of state. kerry has spent his senate career pushing the climate issue, in the sense of a global cooperation on climate. it's something that when you're trying to win swing voters that didn't play well, but with hurricane sandy and new jersey still hurt like it is now, i think the second term will deal with it in a way they didn't in the first. >> thank you, douglas brinkley. thank you for your time. >>> thank you. >>> the election is over, and somebody romney staffers are saying has me very hopeful for the future. that's next. eat good fats. avoid bad. don't go over 2000... 1200 calories a day. carbs are bad. carbs are good. the story keeps changing. so i'm not listening... to anyone but myself. i know better nutrition when i see it: great grains. great grains cereal starts whole and stays whole. see the seam? more processed flakes look nothing like natural grains. you can't argue with nutrition you can see. great grains. search great grains and see for yourself. for multi grain flakes that are

but, you know, obviously john kerry would be a great candidate. susan rice would be a great candidate. but what the president said today was, if i choose susan rice, it's because i think she's the most qualified person for the job, and i'm not going to let your bs stand in the way of me nominating her for that. >> in terms of the tone that we're hearing from the president here, i am not one of those people who believes in like following body language as opposed to following policy fights, but it is striking that we saw the president at that debate with mitt romney, where it quickly spiralled into the false fact check and the please proceed and everything. we saw the president at that debate and we saw the president again today sort of bring the room to a halt, stop everybody, and look really pissed. i have not seen that very much in covering him as president. are there instances -- you've worked with and around him since going back to 2007. is there a pattern to when he gets mad about stuff? >> well, he has only a certain tolerance for some of the

i have a hard time seeing john kerry get the job he wants and replacing hillary clinton because that would open up a senate seat and presumably scott brown of massachusetts would slide in. i think the interesting one is treasury. jack lew obviously is a good candidate. one thing bouncing around the sphere is mitt romney who has experience there. but, you know, i think it's going to be hard to -- hard to see where the chips fall. obviously you want someone with a bit of outreach to wall street, but, you know, someone like a tony james, a private equity executive who is tied with the democrat, it's hard to see after this race and mitt romney having been the opponent, a guy like that fitting in. certainly somebody -- >> you need to head it where do you go in the blogosphere, i think. be careful. >> okay. okay. yeah. well, i'm not -- i'm not predicting romney but he's one of the most interesting names out there. but certainly somebody -- another serious name who could deal with fiscal cliff. >> that would be a great man. >> the state thing is interesting because as josh says, you know, t
